What's in the box

One kit, your choice of variety

One ready-to-fruit Mini-Farm kit in the variety you choose, plus a mister and our step-by-step card.

Four kits, four flavors

Meet the varieties

Every kit ships fully colonized from our farm. Pick one, pick a pair, or grow all four side by side.

Shiitake

Shiitake

Rich, savory, and meaty. The classic for stir-fries, broths, and roasting. A steady producer that rewards patience.

Lion's Mane

Lion's Mane

Delicate, shreds like crab, and browns beautifully in butter. The kit most people buy for a daily mushroom ritual.

Tree Oyster

Tree Oyster

Mild, tender, and fast. Often the first kit to fruit. Great for beginners and weeknight cooking.

Pink Oyster

Pink Oyster

The showstopper. Bright coral clusters that grow in days and cook up crisp with a hint of bacon flavor.

Open. Mist. Harvest.

From box to harvest in about two weeks

Every kit ships fully colonized from our farm, so the hard part is already done. Here is what to expect.

Product wrapped in clear plastic with red 'X' marks, scissors on a white surface.
1

Open the box

Arrives colonized and ready. Cut the bag where the card shows you and set the kit on a counter out of direct sun.

Day 1
Bare colonized block on day one,
2

Mist morning and evening

A few sprays of water twice a day. That is the whole routine. Within about a week you will see the first pins.

Days 2 to 7
Three white textured balls on a cardboard box with text
3

Harvest

Most kits are ready to cut in 10 to 14 days. Twist or cut the cluster at the base and cook it that night.

Days 10 to 14
Product in a clear plastic bag with a cardboard label on a white surface.
4

Rest and grow again

Keep misting. After a week or two of rest the kit fruits again, usually three to four harvests in all.

Weeks 3 to 8
If a grow kit has let you down before

You are not the reason it failed last time.

Most grow kit disappointment comes down to one thing: a block that was contaminated or under-colonized before it ever reached you. The Garrone family has cultivated specialty mushrooms for more than four decades, and every Mini-Farm is built on our own farm from pure cultures, spawn, and substrate, then guaranteed to fruit.

That is why so many of our growers came to us after another kit failed them, and stayed.

Guaranteed to Grow, Far West Fungi Mini-Farm kits

Mini-Farm Grow Kit Guarantee

Every Mini-Farm will produce at least one harvest when cared for according to the instructions in the box.

For the fastest help, email us photos of your kit so we can see what is happening and give you specific advice. Often a small adjustment and a little more time gets a slow block producing.

  • At least one harvest guaranteed when cared for as instructed.
  • Instructions, FAQs, and videos included with every kit.
  • Email us photos for fast, personal troubleshooting.
  • If it still does not grow, we replace the kit.

Not another candle

A gift that grows

A grow kit is a gift people actually talk about. It arrives ready to fruit, it changes every day, and it ends with dinner. Order it to arrive within a week of the occasion so it can be set up fresh. Add a note at checkout and we will include it in the box.

Questions before you buy

How long until I see mushrooms?

Pins usually appear within 5 to 8 days of opening the kit, and most kits are ready to harvest in 10 to 14 days.

How much will I get?

Plan on one to two pounds across three to four harvests. Let the kit rest a week or two between flushes and keep misting.

Is it really beginner friendly?

Yes. Every kit ships fully colonized, so the growing is already done. Your job is to open it, mist it, and keep it out of direct sun. No special equipment.

I am giving this as a gift. When should I order?

Kits are living and are best set up within 7 to 10 days of arrival. Order so it arrives close to the occasion, and tell the recipient to open the shipping box right away.

What if nothing grows?

Email us a photo and we will troubleshoot with you. If it does not fruit after following the steps, we replace it. That is the first crop guarantee.

Which variety should I start with?

Tree Oyster or Pink Oyster if you want fast and easy. Shiitake or Lion's Mane if you are buying for the kitchen. The 4-pack lets you try all four.

Is this the same as a Lion's Mane supplement?

No. These are culinary grow kits, grown to cook and eat. For a daily Lion's Mane routine, see our dual-extracted Lion's Mane Tincture, made from organic Lion's Mane grown on the same farm.

Where it comes from

From our farm to your kitchen

Far West Fungi grows and packs every Mini-Farm kit on our own farm on the Monterey Bay coast, where the fog and mild temperatures suit mushrooms year round. The Garrone family has been growing mushrooms for more than four decades, and the same team that supplies chefs and markets across California builds each kit by hand.

Recipes

Mushroom Crostini

Mushroom Crostini

A good crostini is mostly about timing and good bread. We sauté mushrooms until they are deep and golden, then pile them onto toasted slices rubbed with garlic and finished with olive oil. It is the kind of appetizer that looks like more effort than it takes — and it tends to disappear first at the table.

Mixed Mushroom Fritters

Some of the best things to make with a fresh harvest start simple. These fritters tear Lion's Mane and oyster mushrooms into a light, savory batter and fry them golden — crisp at the edges, tender in the middle. Serve them hot with a squeeze of lemon and a little aioli, and you have the easiest way to taste your first crop straight out of the pan.

Chanterelle and Fig Brioche Strata

Chanterelles and figs are the star of this delicious egg casserole. It’s great for a brunch with friends or family. For a vegetarian version exclude the bacon and cook your mushrooms in oil or butter. If fresh chanterelles are out of season, dried are a great substitution.
